It was great to have the chance to work with soprano Charlotte Mundy on a piece of mine from a few years ago, Fossils, for voice and drone (here provided by electronics).

I'm delighted to say that this year I will be teaching composition at Emory University in Atlanta! I have loved meeting my new colleagues and getting to know the city, and I'm excited for the year ahead.

I've also recently completed a new installation work, Forest (an intertwining). You can see and hear it in action here:

New work: immaterial is a collection of audiovisual pieces completed over the last couple years.

"OBSCURA" was inspired by the beautiful Woven Screens series of sculptures by Rachel Mica Weiss.
"unsung" is a slowly drifting tapestry of words and acoustic and electronic sounds. Huge thanks to Yi-Wen Lai-Tremewan for his recording and mixing on this track!
"Coruscation" was first performed alongside a text by J. Martin Daughtry, focusing on an image of the heat from a crematorium chimney disturbing the air of a brilliant Florida afternoon.
You can purchase the music on Bandcamp.

Here's a recent piece, Some Recitall, and contestation by the Peculier Offices, words, and dedes, of the 7 Heptarchicall Princes, commissioned and performed by the marvellous Bowers-Fader Duo.

The text is by John Dee (1527-1608/9), a scholar, astrologer, and advisor to Elizabeth I. Dee became increasingly interested in the occult and, working with medium Edward Kelley, wrote De Heptarchia Mystica, a guide to summoning angels, from which this text is taken. (The British Library holds the manuscript, and has an interesting page about it.) Dee was a devout Christian and believed that his methods would provide people with spiritual growth and practical help; this piece contrasts the sincerity of his faith with the outlandishness of his visions.

I was recently asked to write a piece responding to COVID-19. The piece I wrote focuses on being in New York City in the early weeks of the pandemic, when uncertainly, tragedy and silence vied for attention. Its musical material is derived from a song I was listening to on repeat at the time, Bon Iver's "Jelmore."

Many thanks to Michael Beckerman for commissioning it.

It's been impossible for most of us to make music live with other people this last year. I've been working on something that could provide that opportunity: two pieces for Zoom singing, which are designed to withstand the lag inherent to the medium and even take advantage of the online format. Here's a screenshot of a singer's "part" — with the words being randomly generated and the pitches given by a bleep in their headphones!
